The furniture design and woodworking program at University of Wisconsin - Madison offers beginning and advanced classes for undergraduate students that explore the technical and conceptual possibilities of woodworking and furniture design. The class curriculum is project-based and teaches a full range of skills. We begin in all classes with the development of original, student-generated designs, and work through drawings, model making, and fabrication using a variety of hand and machine based construction techniques.

We promote and endorse a far-reaching exploration of both traditional techniques and materials, as well cutting edge materials and digitally driven approaches to design and fabrication.

We actively encourage a wide range of material practices, experimentation, and collaboration with other areas of the art department as well as the larger university. The strength of the art program at the University of Wisconsin - Madison hinges on a renowned group of faculty that teach within specific disciples, while also working with students from across the department.
